How to Move Photos to a Collection in Lightroom

Lightroom is a powerful tool for organizing and editing your photography collection. One of its many features is the ability to organize your photos into collections, making it easier to manage and access your images. If you’re new to Lightroom or simply need a refresher, here’s a step-by-step guide on how to move photos to a collection in Lightroom.

1. Open Lightroom and navigate to the Library module

First, open Lightroom on your computer and switch to the Library module. This is where you’ll find all your photos and collections. To access the Library module, click on the ‘Library’ tab at the top of the Lightroom interface or press ‘L’ on your keyboard.

2. Select the photos you want to move

Next, locate the photos you want to move to a new collection. You can do this by scrolling through your photo grid or using the search bar at the top. To select multiple photos, click on the first photo, then hold down the ‘Shift’ key and click on the last photo. This will select a range of photos, or you can use the ‘Ctrl’ (or ‘Cmd’ on a Mac) key to select individual photos.

3. Create a new collection

With your photos selected, go to the ‘Library’ menu at the top of the screen and click on ‘New Collection.’ This will open a dialog box where you can name your new collection. Enter a descriptive name that will help you identify the collection later on, then click ‘Create.’

4. Add the selected photos to the new collection

After creating the new collection, you’ll see it listed in the Collections panel on the left side of the Lightroom interface. Click on the new collection to select it, then click on the ‘Add’ button at the bottom of the Library module. This will add the selected photos to the new collection.

5. Confirm the addition of photos to the collection

Once you click ‘Add,’ a confirmation dialog box will appear, asking if you want to add the selected photos to the new collection. Click ‘OK’ to confirm, and the photos will be moved to the new collection.

6. Repeat the process for other photos

If you have more photos to move to the new collection, repeat steps 2 to 5. You can also create multiple collections and move photos between them to further organize your photography library.

By following these simple steps, you can easily move photos to a collection in Lightroom, making it easier to manage and edit your photography collection. Happy organizing!
